About Passover
The holiday of Passover has four names:
Chag HaMatzot - The Festival of Matzah
Chag HaPesach - The Festival of the Passover Offering
Chag HaAviv - The Spring Festival
Zman Cheiruteinu - The Time of Our Freedom
The Seder (literally ‘order’) is the most widely celebrated Jewish event; it consists of a series of readings and rituals through which we retell the Biblical story of the Israelite Exodus from Egypt. Throughout Passover, Jews refrain from eating chametz (leavened products).
Northeastern Hillel ensures that Jewish students of all backgrounds can celebrate Passover and all Jewish holidays on campus when they are away from home. Even more importantly, we are here throughout the year to help students explore meaningful Jewish answers to life’s big questions.
Studies have shown that Jewish holidays are one of the most important times for students to connect to their Jewish identity and feel a part of the Jewish community. The holidays present Northeastern Hillel with ideal opportunities to create memorable connections to Jewish life on campus, which can help serve as the foundation for students’ Jewish life beyond the campus.
We heavily subsidize the seders and rely on donations to provide programming and meals throughout the week. Please consider making a donation or sponsoring a meal for students so everyone can continue to celebrate the holiday at Northeastern Hillel, regardless of ability to pay.
